A Spicy twist to the classic Marinara.  Made with spicy Italian sausage and crushed red pepper for a little extra kick!

Ingredients

Spicy Sausage:

  • 1 tablespoon Avocado Oil
  • 1/2 cup Chopped Onion
  • 1 to 1 1/2 pound Ground Pork
  • 1 tablespoon Sage
  • 3/4 teaspoon Dried Thyme
  • 3/4 teaspoon Crushed Red Peppers**
  • 1/2 teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Sea Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Celery Seed
  • 1/8 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon Nutmeg

Sauce:

  • 1 can Diced Tomato
  • 1 can Tomato Sauce
  • 1/4 cup Fresh Basil (or 1 tablespoon Dried Basil)
  • 2 tablespoon Parsley
  • 2 teaspoon Oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon Sea Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil over medium-low
  2. Add Chopped Onion and cook for 4-5 minutes
  3. Add ground pork and remaining sausage ingredients and mix
  4. Once the onions are cooked, add the sausage mixture, and cook for 5 minutes breaking it apart with a spoon to a "crumble."  Drain and return to the skillet
  5. Add the sauce ingredients to the skillet and bring to a low boil; cover and reduce heat to low
  6. Cover and cook for 30 minutes to an hour, stirring occasionally
  7. ENJOY!

**adjust crushed red pepper to taste
